Mandatory N.J. flood courses offered by PIA—Register today.

If the flood waters rise, are your customers covered? These courses explain the NFIP in-depth and meet FEMA's requirements for section 207 of the Flood Insurance Reform Act. All insurance agents who sell Standard Flood Insurance Policies issued through the NFIP should attend.

New Jersey Flood continuing education requirement

Producers with property authority and who write flood insurance are required to complete a three-credit flood program for the first renewal following the initial issuance or initial renewal of a license on or after Jan. 1, 2007. Producers need only take the course one time. All new licensees with property authority must complete the flood program as approved by the NFIP.

Producers may take the flood course anytime before the deadline. For example, taking the course this year satisfies the mandatory requirement.

FEMA Sets Flood Training Deadline. Beginning Jan. 1, 2008, the FloodSmart campaign by the National Flood Insurance Program will require flood insurance training as a prerequisite for participation in the Agent Referral and Co-Op Programs. Currently enrolled agents will be asked to provide proof of this training by April 1, 2008. Any agent who does not reply by the April 1 deadline will be removed from the database. The Agent Referral Program generates free, qualified leads for all enrolled agents through the Federal Emergency Management Agency Call Center and through the “Find an Agent” tool on the FloodSmart.gov Web site. The Agent Co-Op Program provides reimbursement up to 75 percent of the cost of advertising. For details, click here.
